Glossary of terms

• Content area - Areas of study such as math, reading, science, etc.

• Career Technical Education (CTE) - Hands-on, real-world learning that applies directly to a job or career

• Developmental range - The expected development of the student usually based off age

• Extended learning opportunities - Learning opportunities outside the normal classroom where students can
get credit as a part of their academic achievement

• Growth mindset - Student's ability to recognize, learn and grow from situations they encounter

• Professional Development (PD) - Opportunities inside and outside the district to add to an educator's abilities

• Professional Learning Community (PLC) - Groups of educators built around a certain idea in order to learn
from each other to become better educators

• Self-regulation - The ability for a student to correct behaviors or actions and learn from them without
redirection from adults

• Service learning - An educational approach that combines learning objectives with community service in order
to provide a learning experience that fills community needs

• Universal Design for Learning (UDL) - Instead of having a set curriculum that is adapted for certain students
to provide multiple methods of teaching and communicating information and evaluating what they learn in
order to reach as many students as possible all the time

• Vertical discussions - Teachers from different grades by similar subject matter talk about what each are
covering to find gaps and learn from each other to have a more comprehensive education
